10 common questions
Common questions
I used my iCloud account and now my personal information is on the watches. What should I do?
Don't use your personal Apple Account for team-owned watches. Create a dedicated, empty Apple Account for the team and use that instead. Since it contains no personal data, it will not sync your messages, photos, or contacts to the watches.
Why doesn’t Apple Family Setup work for a full team?
Family Setup requires GPS + Cellular watch models and is limited by Apple Family size. It is not designed to equip a full roster. Use a dedicated team Apple Account and complete the one-time setup for each watch instead.
Do I need 10 iPhones to set up 10 watches?
No. Every watch needs an iPhone for Apple's initial pairing, but the same iPhone can set up multiple watches. If that becomes unreliable, use spare or older iPhones to work in batches. Once the watches are set up and Seam is installed, those setup phones are not needed during games.
Does Seam really install without an iPhone?
Yes. Seam is an independent watch app. Open the App Store directly on the Apple Watch, search for Seam, and tap Get. A player does not need the Seam iPhone app to receive Team Mode signals on their watch.
Does each player need their phone at the game?
No. Player phones and setup phones are not part of gameplay. Each player watch connects to the coach's iPhone over Bluetooth in Team Mode.
How do watches connect at a game?
Automatically over Bluetooth. Start Team Mode on the coach's iPhone, then have players open Seam and keep it active on their watches. Watches appear on their own; there is no manual pairing inside Seam.
Why are the watches taking time to appear at the field?
A 10–20 second wait can be normal for Bluetooth discovery outdoors. Keep Seam open, keep each watch screen active, and keep the watches near the coaching iPhone. There is usually no need to restart or retry.
Will every Apple Watch model work?
Seam requires watchOS 10 or later, so the original Apple Watch and Series 1–3 are not supported. Series 4, Series 5, and Apple Watch SE (1st generation) can use Solo and Pro modes, but Team Mode is not recommended because of limited Bluetooth throughput. For Team Mode, use Series 6 or later, Apple Watch SE (2nd generation), or an Apple Watch Ultra model. Use Apple's official model finder below if you are unsure which watches you own.
Can I name each watch?
Yes. During Team Setup, name a connected watch or assign it to a player from your roster. Seam remembers that name for the next session.
What if I cannot prepare every watch before a tournament?
Set up as many as you can reliably complete, then test Team Mode with those watches. Two or three watches are enough for a practice inning and to confirm that calls broadcast correctly. Finish the remaining watches before the next event.
